For the Love of Music

This morning my twitter feed showed me an amazing music video, simply the best I’ve seen this year. It’s the cover of Beach Boys’ God only Knows. The song dated back to 1966 (way before I was born, for that matter) but it remained one of my favorite songs of all time since I first discovered it in my teenage years.

Now this 2014 version is released to celebrate the launch of BBC Music and as a charity single to BBC Children in Need campaign. It features a lot of today’s (mainly British) top artists – Sam Smith, Lorde, Emeli Sandé.. as well as the legends – Stevie Wonder, Sir Elton John, and of course, Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys. There are also a lot of other artists featured in the video. I won’t list them all but you can find the full list (including rather funny commentary) in Buzzfeed and The Guardian‘s article.

Okay, I won’t say much.. here’s the video for you to see 🙂

Not only I think the song is brilliant, but the video production is amazing! In a world where mainstream music consists of repetitive tones and meaningless lyrics.. The song (and this cover, of course) is truly a piece of art. Have you seen/heard it? what do you think? Do you like it as much as I do?

  1. I love this song too, it is simple yet beautiful. I was practically raised with music of the sixties and seventies. The Beach Boys and Everly Brothers are two of my dad’s fave bands.

The man at the end of the clip is The Beach Boys’ lead singer, Brian Wilson. This song is also used in the Christmas movie Love Actually. It is played at the end of it.

    Beautiful song & clip Christa.
