Being an avid Korean BBQ lover, I am often disappointed by the fact that there are not many Korean BBQ restaurants in Jakarta that offer all you can eat. I know there are some good ones, in fact, Senopati area in South Jakarta is widely known for its Korean restaurants scene. But, I’ve never heard of one which serves all you can eat.
That’s why I’m very much excited when my Google quest lead me to this restaurant which opened mid 2014 – KogiKogi. It is conveniently located in Senopati area, so I quickly made the decision to take my family there for year end lunch last year.
Because I was too focused on the all you can eat menu, I did not really pay attention to the other menu. Their all you can eat offerings is simple – Weekdays Lunch is IDR 99.000 (++) while Dinner & Weekend is IDR 199.000 (++) per person. The weekend price also includes a plate of Wagyu meat. I did not really check the Wagyu grade but they were delicious enough for me! Yummm!
As an all you can eat restaurant, I have to admit that they don’t offer much variety from the bar. But I think that’s a plus since the guests can focus on one thing – THE MEAT. Hahaha. Yeap, if you are a meat eater and aiming for quantity, I can assure you that you will be very satisfied when coming here.
Now what about the quality? I find it good to my standards. I mean I’ve had better tasted meat, but this one is really not bad at all 🙂
So yeah, if you’re craving for meat and would like to have a meat party, this restaurant is truly for you! do come with your fellow meat eaters and you’ll have a happy tummy, for sure.
Located conveniently in Jalan Wijaya 1, Jakarta Selatan – Typology offers you not only a place to eat but also to work and have fun. This restaurant is considerably new, just opened mid 2014. I was there at the end of last year to meet with some friends, so this post is a bit overdue 😉
When I first got there, I was greeted by this long table which I’m going to call the meeting table. This area is perfect for having discussions, from silly discussions to discussing holiday itinerary to start up meeting.
Then there’s also the bar area with some tables if you prefer to be with smaller group.
My choice that day was the comfy sofa, where I spent the afternoon having lunch with my friends and followed by working some articles for the blog.
Now, let’s talk about the food! What do they serve? Well, they basically serve all kinds of comfort food, the easy one, nothing too fancy (but tastes good, of course!). They have a wide range of food, from the appetiser, snacks, until main course to satisfy your tummy. What did I order that time? Beef Tongue Rice with Teriyaki sauce. I’d prefer to not have the tomato sauce but it still tasted reaalllyy good. You know how Beef Tongue is sort of the trend in town and a lot of restaurants are serving it, but some don’t actually know how to serve proper Beef Tongue? No worries, Typology is the opposite. The dish may look simple but not the taste 🙂
For you sweet tooth out there, Typology also have a selection of desserts and drinks, all non – alcoholic. Rumor has it I have to try their Oreo and Beng – Beng Smoothies. Definitely will come back for that!
Oh btw, they have free high speed wi-fi and electrical sockets can be easily found in between tables. No need to worry if your gadgets need to be charged. Now I’m gonna close my short review with an inspiring mural on the wall I found there, nice isn’t it?

I have a new hobby lately. Well, not exactly a hobby but I’ve been doing this thing often nowadays. That is, visiting small coffee shops in Jakarta and try their latte. By all means I’m no expert in coffee art, I don’t understand most of the terms and I drink mostly only latte. But now that I’ve been going to coffee shops more often, I (kind of) can differentiate which latte is good and which is so – so and I’m getting more interested in trying different kinds of blends.
Through Instagram I got exposed to a lot of coffee shops in town. Some has been around for quite some time but a lot are new. That’s how I found out about Turning Point Coffee, which was just opened recently. Their feed looks very promising and I was tempted to try their coffee. One thing though, they are located in the outskirts of Jakarta – in Gading Serpong to be exact. While I’m curious to try their coffee, going there out of the blue seemed too much of effort for me. But then yesterday I had to accompany my Mum visiting a relative in Alam Sutera, a neighboring city. AHA! what I coincidence, I thought. I then asked my Mum to accompany me to a bit of detour to Gading Serpong in search for this coffee shop.
Turning Point Coffee is located not far from Summarecon Mall Serpong (Yes, that huge shopping mall), in a SOHO complex. It is, however, a bit hard to find because they haven’t put any signage anywhere in the building. They are present in Google listing though, so you can easily search for their name in Google Maps and just follow the direction. But still, a bit hard to find.
When I finally got there, my expectation increased when I was walking inside the store. I could smell the smell of coffee even from the outside! Mind you the door was closed when I was walking in, so I thought it’s a very good sign. The place was small, probably caters around 15 people comfortably inside and a little bit more outside. There were more than 15 people when I arrived though, it was very crowded. There was 1 group on the queue in front of me but I did not have to wait that long to be served and was given a warm welcome by the cashier/server. While making my order I told him that I came from far away (read: Jakarta haha) and he casually said “you’d want to come back!”
For my first order, I ordered a Latte from their House Blend. Mum had their Oolong tea, and we also ordered something sweet – A doughnut and a milk pie. Everything we ordered was very good! I loved my latte, smooth and just the right amount of sweetness. It’s definitely one of the best latte I’ve had in Jakarta (and it’s surroundings too – considering Serpong is not really Jakarta :p). I even made a second order and tried their Cloak&Dagger Blend which has a more fruity taste (until very recently I did not know that coffee could have a fruity taste! *amazed*). Both are reaaally good!
While I’m enjoying my coffee and mum enjoying her tea, I could not help but observing my surroundings. It looks like everyone was so passionate. It was a busy time but I could sense that all the employees are working passionately in serving delicious coffee. Right when I was observing, the cashier approached my table and we had a small chat. It turns out that he’s one of the owners, besides her wife – the barista, and some other friends. I told him how I loved my coffee and he told us a little bit of interesting story behind the coffee shop, how they aim for the coffee shop to be community based – they will serve other coffee shop’s blends periodically. Sounds good to me! 🙂
So me and mum stayed there until the shop’s almost closed at around 5PM. The visit was very enjoyable and I’d definitely come back. I mean, who would not want to enjoy good coffee and scrumptious nibbles in a cosy place where you can have small talks with other people?
Located in Ciumbuleuit area up north of Bandung, Miss Bee Providore offers you a homey and spacious place to dine. To me, this is one of the few places I’ve been that suits every dine out occasion that I can think of! Breakfast with family? I did that. Date with your significant other? of course, sit in the outdoor terrace area (facing the garden) and embrace Bandung’s cosy wind. Gathering with friends and family? sit in the indoor area. Don’t worry, it has a children’s playground as well!
I won’t say much about this place, the pictures below say it all. Enjoy! 🙂
Since it’s almost Halloween, they have creative decorations here and there..
Their indoor sitting area is also very nice, and they also have a small shop which sells cute stuffs (including the famous Kou Cuisine’s Jam from Bali!).
If you have kids, you’ll love this place even more as this place has a cute children’s playground 🙂
Now let’s talk about the food. Since we came there early in the morning (7 AM to be exact.. we were the first customer that day!), they only served breakfast menu.
We ordered different kinds of food – mine was Full English Breakfast. Everything was delicious! I love what I ordered, especially the fact that they don’t use canned baked beans and cooked their own. If you prefer sweet breakfast, try their pancakes! it’s soooo fluffy and buttery. Yummm.
That’s about it! do visit when you’re in Bandung. I heard that the restaurant is often full, so if you planned to have breakfast there, I would suggest to come as early as 7AM so you you can still enjoy the atmosphere before the restaurant gets crowded 🙂
Until recently, Mexican food were not easy to find in Jakarta. Of course there’s Amigos – but it’s a bit pricey and has limited outlet. Nowadays, the situation has changed. You can find Mexican food almost everywhere, especially in food trucks around city centres of Jakarta. But, not all of them are good – I have to say that some of them are just joining the bandwagon, perhaps without understanding the idea of mexican food. Though Mexican food are not my favorite kind of food – I occasionally crave for burrito or quesadilla and got frustrated when one of the food trucks who claim to sell mexican food gave me beef quesadilla with shredded beef and cheese spread rather than diced beef and shredded cheese (!!!).
So, when I got the chance to try a newly opened Mexican food restaurant during my last visit to Bandung, I did not have high expectation towards it. Located in Jalan R.E. Martadinata (Riau) No. 128A, it is easily to find as it has a catchy neon signboard.
When entering the restaurant, me and my family were greeted by the friendly waiter who directed us to our seats. Though they have both indoor and outdoor sitting area, we chose indoor sitting area. After we were seated and given the menu. The menu selection looks impressive. Jalapenos, Burrito, Quesadilla.. they have all the basic mexican food. And that’s about it. The don’t fall into nowadays hip restaurant trap where you have to serve dessert to be able to “fit in” neither do they serve nasi goreng to be able to fit into most Indonesians’ taste buds. One plus point for staying true to mexican food only. Before I start to talk about the food, have a look at these pictures of the restaurant’s ambiance…
Now, do you agree with me if I gave it a second plus point for the ambiance and design? The restaurant has a quirky + vibrant design. It may not be the kind of restaurant for family gathering, but feel free to bring your parents or children there (note that they serve alcohol), to my observation, the indoor area is non-smoker friendly.
Okay, let’s talk about the food now. The four of us ordered different kinds of food. For starters, we ordered Jalapeno Poppers (IDR 27.000). This is surely not for me, as it’s very spicy. My mum could not handle it, I didn’t even want to try.. but my brother loved it!
Next, the main course. We ordered Beef burritos (IDR 47.500), Beef quesadilla (IDR 32.000), and Ox tongue taco (IDR 48.000). All three dishes taste soooo goood! They are rich of flavor and has generous fillings. My brother even said that the burritos were the best he had ever tasted. Each dish came with cream cheese, guacamole, and salsa sauce, also tortilla chips. Yummm! Third plus point for the food.
Although I came here with minimal expectation, I left Perky Pedro with satisfied tummy. Not to forget, it’s friendly for the wallet too – we spent less than IDR 400.000 for four persons.. so it’s less than IDR 100.000 per person. Not too sure about in Bandung – but in Jakarta, it is hard to go to a restaurant, eat good food, enjoy a nice ambiance, and pay less than IDR 100.000 per person. So for me, it’s another plus point! Definitely a must try if you are in Bandung and would love to try something different.
Hidden in a residential area in South Jakarta, lies a restaurant which sells nothing but steak, called Super Steak!
The restaurant is located in someone’s garage, it has nothing much to offer in terms of the place – no fancy interior, plush sofas, not even AC! It offers only basic tables and chairs, around 20 seating maximum. But, don’t be fooled by the minimal interior.. what they offer is, perhaps, one of the best steak I’ve tasted in town!
There’s nothing much written in the menu, no fancy names, no extravagant dish name – to order, simply pick your type of meat (Angus, Super black angus, or local prime) and pick your choice of flavor.. now about the flavor. They have 8 choices of flavor ranging from butter garlic to beerloin(!!!).
I went there my mum and brother, each of us ordered different flavors of steak. Mine was sirloin angus 200gr with lemon herbs flavor. My brother ordered the same sirloin but with lemon herbs part II flavor, pictured below. What’s with the part II? so.. while the original lemon herbs “only” has, well, like its name, lemon and herbs.. lemon and herbs part II has also olive oil and extra fresh herbs under the steak.. which makes it more flavorful and juicy! I personally think that lemon herbs part II is better than the lemon herbs.
Just look at the picture above.. that’s the lemon and herbs part II steak. Trust me it tastes as good as it looks! What I also like about Super Steak is the fries. Big, chunky fries, which looks like it’s freshly cut. Not the frozen fries that we often get when ordering steak nowadays.
I’m definitely coming back (still want to try the beerloin.. hehehe), and I think you should try it out (if you haven’t)!
