Our Engagement Day

I know this post is a bit overdue, but since I just received all pictures from my super talented photographer/blogger friend – Dixie Thamrin, I think it’s just the perfect time to share the story of our engagement day in this blog. Bear with me it’ll be a long post, but I hope you’ll enjoy it! (P.S Dixie has also written about this on her photography blog.. do check it out!)

My September

Hi everyone!!! Hope you are well! 🙂

September is coming to an end and so is my hiatus. Like I said in my last post, a lot of things were happening this month so I decided to take a break from blogging. Now that they have happened, I’m ready to share the stories here in my blog but there’s just one little problem….

How Technology Saved The Day

Today’s R’s birthday and it is another birthday we spend apart. At first I wanted to postpone all celebration until he’s in town in the next couple of months (newsflash: he’s coming to Jakarta!! yay!!), but I still felt that I wanted to do something on the birthday. After having done some research, I found several present options and was able to send him something, right on time. Come to think of it again, technology has helped a lot in our long-distance relationship and I’ll share some of my findings/reviews in this post.

Closing the Distance

Without doubt, closing the distance is the ultimate goal for LDR couples. In my case, we have been talking about closing the distance since day 1. But we knew there are a lot of things that need to happen before we are able to progress. Thus we had to be patient.

Our (Online) Movie Date!

Being in a LDR requires us to be creative in finding ways to “keep the flame alive”. Hahaha. R hates it when I say that, but I feel like every once in a while we need to do something out of the ordinary, don’t you agree?

Recently I found a video chat service called Rabbit (how cute is the name!), which allows you to watch Netflix, Youtube, and browse the web together with your friends regardless of their location. In my own words it’s a video chat + screen sharing service.. which I think is really cool, especially for us long distance couples.

How to Succeed a Long Distance Relationship (!)

I believe no one actually wants to be in a Long Distance Relationship (LDR).  Finding a perfect match in between today’s hustle and bustle is hard enough already, why would anyone go through the hassle of being separated with their match?

Cheers to distance

It has been a while since I last shared stories about my long distance relationship. Well, after my trip to the US this year a lot has happened and it seems like time fly so fast, we did not even realise that we have passed our second anniversary last September! Yay us! 🙂

With everything that has been happening, we don’t really have much time to do the usual things that LDR couples do. We don’t do surprises, don’t write letters, don’t do couples’ activities anymore –  but still we talk everyday! At first I was afraid that our relationship has became dull and we are sinking… but then I realised, this is just another phase in our relationship! He has become my best friend, whom I can talk to about anything.

There are times when I miss having the boyfriend’s presence. A lot. There are times that I feel tired of being separated. But there are also times when I found myself giggling happily during our conversation as if it was our first date – even though it was in the middle of the night. I mean, if a guy can still make you giggle like a teenager after all these years, that must mean something, right?

So for now, cheers to distance. We know that it won’t be forever, so let’s enjoy it while it lasts, before we move on to our next chapters in life :’)

Three weeks with you

After almost two years of being separated, last April we had the chance to enjoy things that couples normally do.

We had coffee dates…

Oh – this one’s my favorite, but not yours, I reckon. Hehehe, I know you hate it when I forced you to drive around LA… only to crossed off the items from ‘best coffee shops in LA” list that I found on Instagram. Hahaha. I know you prefer that Vietnamese coffee shop near your house and I know that you can’t understand why I drink my latte without sugar, or why we had to pay ~$4 for a cuppa while you usually get your morning coffee half the price in your neighbourhood joint – you think they’re just as good. But, we had the coffee dates anyway. We talked and we enjoyed each other’s company.

We did something very Asian…

Yes, we hung out at a boba place. It was a lovely afternoon, we just had a stroll in the park and had some time to kill before dinner. You said I had to try this boba place. Guess what is it called? Boba Time! Hehehe. It was good, and I enjoyed the K-Pop music playing in the background :p We then had Korean BBQ for dinner. Oh how I love that I can eat whatever when I’m with you. It’s good to share a love for food, but remember we need to maintain our health too 😉

We had hipster water…

That’s what you said! :p But don’t you think this water is cute? hahaha. I remember that day dearly. We took the train from Union Station to Pasadena, playing tourists in your town. When we got to Pasadena, we walked around. Then I found a small shop with some stalls – one of which is The Pie Hole. We both admit that their pies were very tempting so we decided to sit down and had one for each of us. You had the salted chocolate something while I had the strawberry something pie (can’t remember the names! oops!). It’s nice to explore new things together, things that we can’t normally do because of the distance.

We had burgers while watching NBA game…

After that Coachella weekend, we went to Las Vegas for a quick getaway. We went there in 2013, but there’s never a lack of reason to go back to Vegas, right? 😉 This time we wanted to try Shake Shack burger. Rumor has it their burgers are so good and that night we proved that it’s true. But not only the burgers that made it memorable, but the fact that you could not get your eyes off the big screen while we were there. So I protested. Things got a little bit heated up. But it was not a big deal, we reconciled quickly. I learned to tolerate your love for NBA just like you tolerate my love for finding instagram-able spots :p

And that’s just some of the highlights of how we spent three weeks together. We had fun, we explored together. Sometimes we agree, sometimes not. But most importantly, what we have is real and we enjoyed every seconds of our time together. It’s unfortunate that we have to be separated again, but we’ll hang on… until the next time we meet again.

P.S I miss you 😉

In two weeks-ish…

Yesterday I woke up and found this picture on my iMessenger, sent by the boyfriend:

Our Coachella Tickets

Yap, our Coachella tickets have arrived!! It’s actually 22 more days until Coachella Weekend (I’m going on weekend two, btw). And.. Uhm.. It’s 16 more days until I got to see my boyfriend after 1,5years apart! Yayyynesss so excited! 🙂

So yeah, that’s just a short update and this is probably the shortest blog post I’ve written hehehe. But just want to share my excitement because, well, I’ll be going to Coachella with the boyfriend that I haven’t seen for over a year! Aaaaaaa!!

Speaking of which, when writing this I suddenly feel nervous. Well not bad-nervous, good-nervous obviously. I think it’s because of the excitement. You know that feeling you have when you’re about to go on a first date with someone that you really like? Yes, that kind of feeling. Hopefully things will go smoothly. 🙂

When was the last time you feel excited of something? Care to share? 🙂
